Users instructions for the CatAlert Mark II

The CatAlertTM is an Electronic Sonic Collar intended to be worn by domestic cats. It emits a beep every seven seconds, which alerts birds and prevents cat attacks on them. The continuous beeping makes the birds aware of the presence of the cat and allows them to evade capture.

* The CatAlert - Mark II...

The beeping noise can be switched on and off by the owner e.g. so that the collar can be silent when the cat is indoors. The collar also incorporates a light sensor that will automatically switch it off in low light levels. This means that the cat can hunt successfully in dark buildings such as farmer’s barns and at night. Alternatively the owner can switch off the light sensor and allow the CatAlert to beep in the darkness as well, thus preventing the cat hunting successfully at night and from deep shade in poor daylight (e.g. from under hedges).

If the sounder is off and you wish to switch it on:

  1. Press the button briefly
  2. You will hear one long beep followed by two short beeps
  3. The device will now beep every 7 seconds (if there is enough light).

If the sounder is on and you want to switch it off:

  1. Press the button briefly
  2. You will hear one long beep followed by one short beep
  3. The device will now remain silent

If the light sensor is off and you want to switch it on:

  1. Press the button and keep it pressed. You will hear a long beep followed by a second beep
  2. Release the button immediately
  3. You will hear four short beeps which indicate that the light sensor is switched on
  4. If the sounder is on, it should continue beeping every seven seconds. When it becomes dark or you cover the light sensor, the device stops beeping.

If the light sensor is on and you want to switch it off:

  1. Press the button and keep it pressed. You will hear a long beep followed by a second beep.
  2. Release the switch immediately
  3. You will hear three short beeps indicating that the light sensor is now off.
  4. If the sounder is on, it should continue beeping every seven seconds, even when it becomes dark or the light sensor is covered.

CatAlert is powered by a Varta or Samsung CR2032 button battery, which should last for about 2 years. It can be renewed by removing the back (four screws) and levering out the circuit board from the side opposite the switch. Note the orientation of the existing battery and replace it by a new CR 2032 with the + sign facing towards you. Replace the circuit board, making sure that the switch is inserted into its rubber enclosure first, and screw the lid back on again. (A watch repair shop can do this for you). The collar can be made more secure around the cat’s neck if the end is doubled over and stitched in a loop – this prevents it slipping through the buckle.

To maintain the Noise Level – use a pin to keep the small holes at the front of the box open and clean.
