Chumleigh and Little Dorrit
Chumleigh and Little Dorrit
A year ago I purchased 2 CatAlert collars for my cats (see photo of Chumleigh and Little Dorrit sporting their collars). These are no longer working and I am interested in obtaining some more. I kept detailed records for a while of their victims which I eventually sent to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB). I found the collars reduced the number of bird kills from about 2 a day to about 3 a week, although the collars seemed to have no significant effect on mammals or reptiles (or dragonflies!). Still, a great success though. I also think that the cat's don't seem to try as hard, knowing that their chances are much reduced! >>Miranda Smith

My cat, Sheba, hasn't caught any birds since she has been wearing her CatAlert collar.

Before that she was bringing in a bird once or twice each day.

David Morris from Portsmouth reports that his cat Pepper has not delivered any "presents" since he (the cat) started wearing his CatAlert collar in early November 2004. He has ordered up another collar for Pepper's companion Chilli. David's two Moggies will have to spice up there lives chasing one another.

Jesse the Outlaw Cat

Jesse the Outlaw Cat

Before I took Jesse in he had fed himself most of the time on the wildlife in the area, and I feel sure he would still prefer fresh bird to cat food. After he arrived, he used to bring a bird into my home almost daily - initially they were live gifts but later were presented half eaten. I sought the advice of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), of which I am a member, and they told me about the CatAlert collar. I am pleased to say that Jesse has not, to my knowledge, caught a single bird since he started wearing it at the beginning of June 2003.

Jesse was very large and temperamental and could inflict a serious bite - I have the scars and the anti-tetanus jabs to prove it. Although he took to wearing the collar straight away I had to wear leather gloves to put it on. He has switched his diet to normal cat food now and has even begun to calm down and demonstrate his affection - by biting me with less vigour.

Many thanks for an excellent product and service.

The Malmsbury Moggie

This mog's name is Monty and he shares his house with two other older cats(The bully Charlie and the aged Dennis), and humans Bob and Linda. He is very fortunate to have a very large garden directly backing onto fields.

Over the last three months he has normally dined on about 3 birds per week. More if they are youngsters.
Not a very scientific experiment but so far: -

Time wearing CatAlert collar = 14 days and attributable bird dinners = 0.

He still visits the 'Mice R Yours' supermarket during the night.

PS YES we do feed him, but the name of the cat food must be withheld in case it influences the market!
